Local Love
Hey again!
Hope you are finding ways to stay hopeful and encouraged during this challenging time amidst many new restrictions. I had something different planned for the blog this week but thought this might be a great time to chat about supporting local businesses. As we all know there are so many local restaurants, shops, and creatives that have had a difficult year and the next few months which are usually the busiest season are not looking any better. The good news is there are still so many ways we can support these places whether online, using pickup or following safety measures in person.
Now more than ever is a great time for all of us to share and support some of our favourite local and Canadian businesses! Anyways I thought I'd share some of my personal favs! I will be honest though this list could be so much bigger... there are just way too many and I know I have missed a few.
Bloom Cookies in Edmonton: Dangerously good and creative cookie varieties. Back in the day (before kids) I used to get up early and walk from my apartment downtown to snag a couple cookies on a Saturday morning when Bloom was part of the 104th street market, now they are available during the week at their location on 124th street. I absolutely guarantee you will enjoy these cookies. A little plus is they accommodate several food allergies and dietary needs AND they still taste delicious!! One nice way you can support during COVID if you prefer to stay in, is by ordering a cookie box! They deliver locally to your house, or it makes a lovely gift for a friend!
HSKT A local store that supports local! Love this. Head Shoulders Knees and Toes can be found online or near High Street, downtown Edmonton. They carry a great selection of clothing for children from newborn to tween, where you can find local brands as well. (They also carry Omo Mobi!)
Miss Boss Miss Boss carries a beautiful collection of women’s and now tween clothing in store and online. You can find stylish and cozy pieces from some amazing brands not to mention some gorgeous jewelry and accessories as well. I love the atmosphere of shopping in this store, though they have a great online shopping platform as well!
The Art of Cake This is a family fav. Pre-COVID we frequented this place on the weekly... not even kidding. Beautiful cakes and desserts, quiche and soups, not to mention the unique setting. We have still loved to dine in these last months with the recommended safety measures but also have been taking it to go a little more often!
KB & Co. How can you not love plant based food done deliciously well! If you are west side of Canada, you can find a location in Edmonton, Kelowna or Calgary. Personal favs are the Coconut BLT Sandwich, Oat & Hemp Seed Waffles and the Sweet Green Smoothie. The taste is great but what's better is it makes you feel great too! Love that.
Etoroma Creative We love Etoroma Creative! All of the photography from our website and instagram has been taken from this amazing wife and husband duo who provide a variety of creative services for personal or business. Not only are they both exceptionally talented but they are great people to work with! Definitely recommend for your next shoot!
The Maker's Keep If you live in Edmonton this is a must to check out. A beautiful place to find great gifts and locally created items. You can find home decor, clothing, and even some sweet treats! Shop downtown on 124th street, Kingsway, the Enjoy Center in St.Albert and also conveniently online as well!
Poppy Barley I am always shocked if I come across someone who has not heard of Poppy Barley yet. (TBH it doesn't happen very often anymore) No offence... but where have you been!? These shoes and accessories are the absolute best!! Founded in Edmonton, with a great selection of beautiful quality made products in sizes for everyone, with narrow or wide options for the perfect fit. Not only are the shoes beautiful, but a new fav of my husband's is 'The Backpack', a great everyday work bag. I myself love the Weekend Tote, with a little one, its the perfect size for what I need for her and myself. If you live in Edmonton you can check out the South Gate location, and for those across Canada you can shop online.
As I mentioned above, this list could be so much longer! Please feel free to share some of your favs below!!
